Woodberry Forest School is accepting applications for an assistant/associate director of college counseling. Woodberry’s next assistant/associate director of college counseling with be a critical member of a five-member team including the assistant headmaster for admissions and college counseling, director of college counseling, associate director of college counseling, and testing coordinator/administrative assistant.
The assistant/associate director position is a full-time, ten-month appointment. Although our college counselors are assigned students during the junior year with whom they will work closely throughout their junior and senior years, the college counseling team works collectively with students in their freshman and sophomore years as we continue to build a robust college counseling program. The assistant/associate director will advise students and their families on all aspects of the college search and application process. Specifically, the assistant/associate director will help students identify colleges of interest, support students in completing their applications, write thoughtful letters of recommendations, advocate appropriately for students, serve as a resource to parents, and participate in various professional organizations, conferences, and college visit programs, both on and off campus.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, a desire to work closely with a range of talented students, an appreciation of single-sex education, and a willingness to engage in the life of a residential school community. Candidates must be organized, able to meet deadlines, detail-oriented, good listeners, and excited about working collaboratively with colleagues and students. A bachelor’s degree is required, and professional experience in college admission and/or college counseling is preferred. As a member of a boarding school, the assistant director will also be involved in multiple aspects of the school life. The assistant director of college counseling will invest in the boarding school life to connect fully with the boys we serve. Depending on the interest of the successful candidate and the needs of the school, teaching and coaching opportunities may be possible.
