Occupying three floors of Alex S. Hanes Hall the William H. White Jr. Library and  Belk Audio-Visual Center provide an intellectually stimulating atmosphere for students, faculty, and staff of Woodberry Forest School. The William H. White, Jr. library holds over 33,500 volumes and 94 print periodicals, supplemented by 28 subscription databases which hold thousands of abstracts and full-text articles from journals, newspapers, and reference books. Two large reading rooms, 55 study carrels, and five small study areas provide seating for approximately 150 students, all of whom have access to WFSNet in the library's fully wireless environment.

The primary mission of the William H. White, Jr. Library is to actively support the educational goals of Woodberry Forest School and to be an intellectual and cultural force within the community.

The Belk Audio-Visual Center offers five small-group study rooms with high-speed wireless connections, as well as a theater with a plasma TV, surround-sound system, and flexible seating. There is also a wireless seminar room with a smart podium for library instruction as well as student or faculty group meeting.

Originally completed in 1958, 18,000 square-foot Hanes Hall has been extensively remodeled through the generosity of friends and the family of the late Alexander Stephen Hanes, Jr. '32, and the Thomas Milburn Belk family.
