Technology
At Woodberry Forest we have the latest technology available for use, and we use it well. Our technology-rich environment features an interactive Admissions Web site to facilitate our online application process, multiple computer labs, sophisticated email and collaboration software, high-speed Internet access, video conferencing, and 28 subscription databases for library research.

We are committed to helping students learn how to live in a computerized environment and to use technology responsibly. Each student is required to take a short course in ethical conduct and appropriate net etiquette. Through this course, and through daily exposure to all types of academic technology, students learn that the sanctity of our honor system extends into the technological world. We encourage students with a particular interest in computers to take advantage of every opportunity  available. We charge no technology fees.

WFSNet, Woodberry’s computer network, serves all academic buildings, administrative buildings and dormitories. Most academic buildings, including the library, offer wireless access.

LCD projectors are a fixture in almost every classroom. SMART Boards™, Sympodiums™, document cameras, and tablet PCs are also common. Faculty members apply technology in their teaching and expect students to use it in their coursework.  Examples of widely used software include Microsoft Office Suite, FirstClass email, Inspiration®, Practica Musica®, Geometer’s Sketchpad®, Pro Tools, and AutoCad LT®.  We provide two multi-purpose computer labs, a digital foreign language lab, one mobile tablet lab, one mobile lab for the sciences, a library lab, a music lab which integrates musical keyboards and various musical instruments, and a Tech Deck for teaching AutoCad.

Access to WFSNet
Access to WFSNet is a privilege granted to students who agree to abide by the school’s Code of Ethical Conduct in a Computerized Community.  All students receive a school email address and are expected to use it for assignments, share lab reports, and stay informed of school news and events. Responsible use of the Internet is expected of all students.

Access to the Internet
Woodberry acknowledges that students will use WFSNet for recreational as well as for educational purposes. To help students learn to use their time wisely, the school allows fifth and sixth formers to have access to the Internet in their rooms so long as that they use it responsibly and its use does not negatively impact their academic performance. Fourth formers, beginning in the winter trimester, may have access to the Internet in their dorm rooms. All students have network access to email, network servers, and network printers.

Computer Needs
Woodberry does not require students to bring their own computers from home. We provide lab computers and support them with all  necessary software. Many students, however, choose to purchase their own computers.
