The Virginia Academy of Family Physicians has named Woodberry's physican, Randy Merrick, M.D. '73, its F. Elliott Olglesby, M.D. Volunteer of the Year.
Dr. Merrick not only is an integral part of life at Woodberry--he is also highly involved in the local community as a tireless volunteer. He has served as medical examiner for Orange, Madison, and Louisa counties for twenty years. He helped start Hospice of the Rapidan and was their medical director for many years. He is a board member of the local Boys and Girls Club, and he has been a major fundraiser for the Sheltering Arms Homeless Shelter.
Dr. Merrick founded the Orange County Free Clinic, and currently serves as its president. In the two years that it has been open, the clinic has provided medical care and medications to more than 620 patients, resulting in more than 2,000 visits for chronic illness managment and the comfort of acute conditions for the uninsured or underinsured in Orange County.
Woodberry congratulates Dr. Merrick on this well-deserved honor.

Although the Ragged Mountain Cup, scheduled for today, has been postponed until September 7 because of high temperatures, all Woodberry running fans are poised to see what our harriers can do.
According to a piece by Mark Lorenzoni in today's Charlottesville Daily Progress, rising sixth former Kevin Bennert is the "top-ranked, pre-season harrier in all of Virginia," and he has a" real shot to become the first Woodberry runner ever to win a Cup title."
