1940 Game Film Captures Tiger Spirit

Thanks to Woodberry Forest School archivist Karen Culbertson, a film clip from a 1940-41 movie made to share with prospective students and alumni is now online. "Fight for the Orange & Black," the tune accompanying footage from the 1940 Game against Episcopal High School was written by Johnny Mercer ’27. Later known for Academy award-winning songs like "Moon River" and "In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening," Johnny sent the song to Woodberry in time for the 1936 playing of The Game.

Watch this piece of Woodberry history and get excited for the 114th WFS/EHS matchup on The Game page.
